7. Helps you Tap Into Your Natural Playfulness and Joy

Have you ever observed animals play together? Puppies and kittens play all day long, and so do adult animals. For some reason, it seems we humans limit ourselves in this way. When I was growing up, we didn’t have a lot of electronics. There weren’t cell phones or computers or tablets or video games, with everyone isolated in their own virtual world staring at a screen. Often, my family would sit around the dinner table and somebody would pick up an object and start playing with it. A salt shaker became a nose, An empty bowl a hat. Green peas would turn into rolling marbles and napkins would become clothing. We would laugh and be silly and use funny voices and gestures and tell jokes and stories. This was normal in our house. When I look back on it now, I realize that my parents, without even realizing it, were teaching my sister and I how to be creative. How to play and have fun. And in no small way, this was a significant part of them feeding the artist I would later become.

I meet many people who are blocked from joy because of trauma and limiting beliefs. It is our natural birthright to experience JOY and PLAY! When we tap into our joy on a regular, daily basis, it infuses our being with a sense of lightness and well-being that begins to permeate everything we do. Our work feels lighter, our chores feel lighter. It’s no accident that in most cultures in the world, there was an entire body of music devoted to helping humans do all the things that humans do in a day. Hunting songs, planting songs, walking songs, laundry songs, cooking songs, and on and on,  Uplifting celestial music with a mantra always taps me into a joyful state… I find myself smiling, ear to ear, cranking up the sound in the car or in the house, chanting “Om Apadamapa” or some other wonderful mantra. I put it on repeat. I grab my husband and start dancing, or I dance by myself! I love the way it makes me feel. I love the joy that bubbles up and ripples through my day.

8. Taps you into your healthy power

Just like we are meant to fully seek out joy and play, we are also meant to strengthen our personal power. Russill Paul, in his book “The Yoga of Sound,” tells us that “since mantras represent realities much greater than ourselves, assimilating their power adds to our own greatness, if only we are willing to embrace the magnitude and scope of their possibilities.” Healthy personal power and autonomy exist to BETTER the human experience. A healthy sense of our own personal power helps us create good boundaries, increases our confidence, helps us manifest our dreams, fuels our creativity and makes us good leaders. If you are ready to boost your confidence and personal power, explore daily mantra music with specific power mantras to facilitate this expansion. The mantra Om Apadamapa is one such powerful healing mantra. Chanting these syllables on a regular basis will infuse the energetic patterns of the mantra into your daily awareness, until they take root and become a natural part of your being.

9. Energizes you!

Mantras and music in the morning can replace your cup of coffee. Or you can do both! The type of energy we seek outside of ourselves with energy drinks or other substances as such is very different from Divine energy that can come from chanting mantra and powerful healing sound. Have you ever experienced this difference? Celestial energy from Source is sustainable, everlasting and always available… we have everything we need right here and now when we choose to connect.

When we chant, we literally vibrate all the chakras, the energy centers of body, aligning and realigning them, cleaning them out and rebalancing them. The chakras are receptacles for our ingrained behavioral patterns, thoughts, beliefs and ideas. We groove them into our energy centers with repetitive habitual thinking. Sometimes these patterns are helpful and supportive. Sometimes … not so much. Healing sound and mantra is an outstanding ally when we want to change an unwanted pattern that has been deeply embedded into our energy. We introduce the new vibration and we entrain ourselves to the new frequencies and the new consciousness. Gradually, we begin to see the contrast between the old pattern and the new way of being. As we step into the new, more and more, we feel an increased sense of well being and … more energy becomes available for us in our lives. Healing sound and mantra is a fabulous way to recalibrate your entire mind/body system so you can have more energy to do what inspires and brings you joy, and to be the best you possible.

10. Boosts confidence

We could all use a bit more confidence, right? Tackle your insecurities, sing and chant strongly, loudly! Ask for what you want! Chanting certain mantras can help us feel more confident, powerful, strong, alive and vibrant. The process of digging deep within and tapping into the unseen, into an expanded world of possibility, is an act of courage and confidence in and of itself. What better way to cultivate confidence than do a confident action everyday?

There are particular mantras that can specifically help us develop and strengthen our courage and confidence. Mantras that help us attune to these frequencies and align with the consciousness of trust and faith. Through practice and repetition, when we train ourselves to tune our inner radio station to these frequencies, they begin to be our favorite playlist, our go-to place.

One of my students was struggling with confidence and felt incredibly shy about speaking up and asking for what she wanted from her partner. I assigned her a mantra to help her bring in the energy of a particular Goddess, to call in the strength and power of the divine feminine. I taught her the mantra and its pronunciation, and recommended that she chant it daily, while feeling a sense of strength and limitless internal power. The next time I saw her, she was glowing. She said that she felt as if “a dragon had been unleashed!” She spoke with her partner, asked for what she wanted, and he couldn’t wait to give it to her.

Is it the mantra that did it? By itself, no. It was the combination of intention, focus, commitment, and her willingness to take a risk, dive in, and allow the sound to guide her into a new way of being.

This is the power of sound and mantra as an ally in our journey to remember and reclaim our wholeness.
